Fun fact about MAC Whirl: Back in the day (as in pre-2015), Whirl, a dark matte brown with a tinge of rose, only existed as a lip pencil. Way back before the dinosaurs 🦕 disappeared, I used to outline my lips with Whirl pencil, fill them in, and then top everything off with Chapstick to create my own DIY Whirl lipstick. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this! I had no idea which to pick and I get a little flustered at the MAC display in my Macys. I'm NC40 and Persistence looks perfect for my tone and what I'd like in a nude lip. Thank you for sharing! Edit: Aaaaand I see you have a blog!
Today's review is going to be all about the MAC lipstick in Whirl. It's a permanent shade from MAC and is part of their matte collection. It retails for £15.50 and can be found on MAC online, House of Fraser (where it's £14.00), John Lewis, Selfridges and Debenhams.
At one point this lipstick was out of stock as well as the lip liners in Whirl, Soar and Spice due to the 90's theme coming back and people were going nuts trying to get them. That seems to have died down now and most of the above places have now got stock of all, if not most of these products now!

It's a rosy nude shade it doesn't lean too brown and it doesn't lean too pink either it's slap bang in the middle! I feel like it would suit a wide variety of skin tones as it such a versatile shade. I LOVE this lipstick but that isn't surprising since I love the matching lip liner. They are the exact same colour and if you like the colour of the pencil, now you can have it in a lipstick form too! For me it is the perfect my lips but better kind of shade it's neutral enough for everyday wear but isn't the concealer lips kind that make your lips look like they have melted into your face and you have no lips.
I do need to mention that I wear a lipstick lock by Rimmel over all my lipsticks so the average lasting time of a lipstick will depend person to person. I wear a lipstick lock over lipsticks to stop them from bleeding so cannot give you a average time of how long they last without a lipstick lock!
The formula of this is great! For me it's not drying and it doesn't make my lips feel like the Sahara. The lasting power of this depends on the person. I usually have a seven hour shift at work so for me I need my lipstick to last I can't be going off the floor every five minutes to deal with my lipstick. This lipstick lasts for a good four hours and I say four hours because then I tend to take lunch and if I'm eating greasy food this will fade. It doesn't fade and disappear completely off my lips but I do tend to reapply it after I have eaten lunch. After that though, I don't reapply! so I guess this lipstick would last longer if I didn't eat so many crisps basically. When I don't eat greasy food (which is rare let's be honest!) this will literally last me a whole shift at work! So basically in answer to the question how long does it last? I would say it depends on what you are eating that day!
I usually pair this lipstick with a dark smoky eye. The other day I wore it with the Tom Ford Night Sky Cream and Powder Shadow and I have to say it did pair beautifully and they both lasted my entire shift. I feel like it is a colour that can be worn everyday or for looks where you want a more pared down and muted look such as a no makeup makeup look.

Remove malware from my mac. I love the colour, I love the formula, I love the longevity of it, I love the fact that it has a matching lip liner, I love the price since it's not too expensive! so basically I think this has turned into my new everyday casual throw on and leave the house lip colour! Which is saying something because my Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Lolita is my HG however with those you have to be so very careful not to go over your lip line because they dry fast and don't budge – which is why I love them but there is no room for mistakes. With Whirl even if you do make a mistake it is easily sorted!

In 2015, MAC finally turned this iconic color into a lipstick — the Whirl Matte Lipstick we know and love today.
I know there's this whole thing that Whirl is a very 'Kylie Jenner lips' color (as if she invented it 🙄 ), and yes, it's definitely one of those lipsticks that will help you get that specific look. In fact, whenever a friend asks me for a Kylie Jenner lips recommendation, first, I try not to outwardly groan… Then, I suggest MAC Whirl. But really, though, whenever I see Whirl, I think more of '90s supermodels like Linda and Christy and Cindy. It has a very early Bobbi Brown chicness to it IMO, and I love 💖 it.
There's also another reason why I love it… Because it's similar to the color of my gums.
Yes, I realize that that is an odd thing to like about a nude lipstick, but I'm looking at my gums here, and it really is the color of my gums. (Side note: I'm not gonna show you my gums. Hi-res pics of my gums do not need to exist on the Internet.)
Maybe that's why Whirl is the ultimate nude lipstick for so many people. It matches the color of their gums, ha ha ha! Anyway, here it is on lighter skin and darker skin.
Whirl is also a color chameleon, and depending on the lighting and how much you're wearing, it can either look like a dark rosy brown if you apply a sheer layer (in that case, it's like browner version of Mehr), or a true brown like Paramount with a heavier application.
Whirl is a consummate flat matte, and it feels thicker on my lips than Velvet Teddy or Mehr. One thing you can do if you find that it looks too thick and heavy on your lips is to first coat your bottom lip with a heavy layer, and then press your lips together to transfer the lipstick from one lip to the other. Then, pat everything down with a finger. That will smooth it into a seamless finish that doesn't look too heavy. 😉
